Bumper Spray Paint – How to Spray Paint a Car Bumper Like the Pros

2 min read

Spray painting a car is easy and fun. Bumper spray painting is much easier because it is only a part of the car. If you purchased a new bumper and find out that the color does not match your vehicle, you can modify accordingly.

Just like the car itself, you need to prepare the surface of the bumper. Mind you, it is the same step to use when spray painting either the front or the back bumpers. You also need to determine the kind of paint your will use for the bumper spray painting. There are numerous paints including the metallic ones which are quite good for the present work. You can use soapy water or strong solvent as prescribed by the manufacturer’s to clean the surface of the bumper. If you have done that, let us move to the next step.

So have you prepared your surface yet? Great! It is now time to move the bumper to a well ventilated area. It is better to use an airy interior garage where debris and dust will not get to your sprayed bumper. All the same, when you are there, suspend your bumper lengthwise with the coat hanger. Put on your safety equipments like gloves, goggles, and workshop boots and meet me at the next step.

Are you ready? I guess you are. If you have been following me steps, you are well ready to spray paint your bumper perfectly. Now, holding the can or the spray gun about 7 – 12 inches away from the surface of the bumper, make long strokes evenly to distribute the paints without incurring heavy deposits. Globs of paints indicate that you are too close, or probably you are not moving your hands as fast as you are supposed to.

In case you see globs at the initial time, do not worry; allow it to dry for about 12 minutes. Repeat the spray process several times to get a better and professional touch up spray.
